The Piercing Press Conference
The United Nations security
council’s press conference was indeed an interesting affair. The standings of
the delegates of the various countries were turned around as they faced strict backlash, criticism and pushing questions by the fiery press.
The delegate of china, who had so
far stood as an imposing force in the committee, was spat on with a wide array
of queries. The press questioned the delegate on the procedure to visit a
hospital in her country. A clueless delegate desperately tried to come up with
reasons for the alleged ‘inhuman’ system. According to the press, the procedure
was to first obtain a ticket, and then stand in a long queue, regardless of the
severity of the situation. The delegate of china said,”right to equality comes
before right to life.” This caused a lot of criticism to erupt from the audience,
and after some more argument, a defeated delegate took her seat.
The next imposing question was
posed to the delegate of Serbia. The delegate seemed to be clueless about his
own country’s population, and fumbled for words when asked if he knew the number
of illegal arms present in Serbia. He even seemed to be unaware of the fact
that his country was ‘the land of guns’. After much debate and many sheepish
grins from the delegate, he was branded unfit to sit in the committee.
The delegate of India was
questioned on the infamous reservation system existing in her country. She was
questioned as to why she believed in the ineffectiveness of economic based
reservations, and failed to produce a satisfactory answer, and unsuccessfully
defended her claim of the positive effects of the caste based reservation.
With regards to the UNSC’s agenda
of gun reform, the delegate of china was questioned on the transparency of her
own country, and its alleged support of Pakistan’s sate terrorism. She blatantly
denied claims support of terrorism, and stated that the arms supplied to Pakistan
was for the government of Pakistan to use them to eliminate terrorism existing
in the country.
The next question posed by the
relentless press was to the delegate of the United States. He was questioned on
president trump’s hypocrisy relating to his wife Melania trump’s citizenship,
with she herself being an immigrant. The States’ much criticized immigration
laws were brought up, and the imposing argument resulted in the delegate declaring
that he had nothing to say in return.
The press conference was
definitely a fun and informative event, and brought to light many issues
regarding the delegates and their respective countries.
