Although on paper the Russian and American gun laws look the same, in the real world they are poles apart. For instance, in both these countries civilians are allowed to use licensed guns. However, there are considerable amount of differences. Let us study them in detail.
Russia wouldn’t claim that its gun control laws do not allow the common men to own ammunition. However, saying so Russia also assures everyone, extreme precautions and measures taken to ensure minimal risks regarding the ownership of weapons by common men.
Citizens above the age of 18 can retrieve licensed guns in Russia. However ,before retrieving the ammunition the citizens have to attend gun safety classes and along with it a background check is also compulsory. The firearms license in Russia is applicable for 5 years and can be renewed. Firearms is provided under legal procedures for self defense ,hunting or sports activities. Initially purchase is limited to long smooth bore firearms and pneumatic weapons with a muzzle energy of upto 25 joules. After 5 years of shotgun ownership a man can purchase a rifle. Buying the rifles before the use of shotguns is taken very seriously and deemed an offence. Rifles and barrels with less than 500mm are prohibited and so are other extremely dangerous and lethal weapons. This tells us a lot about the extremely secure and cautious procedures followed before and after citizens  acquire ammunition. With this fact in mind it is extremely simple to visualize why there are very little attacks and shootouts taking place in this country even though citizens have access to firearms.
 Countries like Russia and Sweden are some of the vital examples which can be used to contradict the Second Amendment law of the US. The countries mentioned above like USA provides licensed arms to citizens. However, there is a huge statistical difference in the amount of shootouts carried out within USA and the countries given .What is the reason for this? It is because Sweden and Russia have far more stringent laws placed on ammunition ownership and moreover the implementation of these laws are carried out extremely strictly and with least compromise whatsoever. In USA on the other hand debates about amending the second amendment in the constitution keeps taking place but little action is taken whatsoever. During Barack Obama’s term as US president many steps were taken that were intended to decrease gun violence including a measure requiring dealers of firearms at gun shows or online to obtain federal license and conduct background checks. However, the present regime in USA (Republicans) are right wingers and are against the passing of stringent laws for gun control. Hence, there have been no significant measures that have taken place during the Trump regime regarding gun control. The United States with less than 5% of the world’s population has 35-50% of the world’s civilian owned guns according to a report by the Switzerland based small arms survey. It ranks no.1 in firearms per capita too. Also, the United States has the highest homicide by firearm rate among the world’s most developed nations.
Coming back to Russia, license is a must for acquiring guns and among the various requirements the medical certificate is also an important one. To control unauthorized gun ownership, the government is discussing a law to punish doctors who issue inauthentic/false health reports for people applying for gun ownership and according to sources the law is to be implemented very soon. Hence to conclude with Russian gun control policies are far ahead of its times and certainly more effective in comparison to the US.

It is a widely acknowledged fact that the United States conducts itself in a hypocritical manner, and contradicts itself repeatedly in international forums. The Disarmament and International Security Council proved to be no different, and the press conference revealed the double standards the government has for its citizens.
