Should more Gun Control Laws be enacted?

Proponents of more gun control laws state that the second amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restriction. Opponents say that the second amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns; that guns are needed for self-defence from threats ranging from local criminals to foreign invader; and that gun ownership deters crime rather than causes more crime. These two different opinions about the gun laws worldwide are very valid indeed, but owning a gun, even for self-defence isn’t really necessary because shooting down someone is still and always will be a crime.
More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. Most suicides involve the use of a gun. Also, more gun control laws are needed to protect women from domestic abusers and stalkers. Five women are murdered with guns every day in the United States. Now banning the use of guns may not completely stop this but it will at least reduce the number of deaths; murders and suicides.
Legally owned guns are frequently stolen and used by criminals. This is as good as the guns being illegal. These laws would reduce societal costs associated with gun violence. Fewer guns just lead to less violence. Armed citizens are unlikely to stop crimes and are more likely to make dangerous situations, including mass shootings, which of course leads to mass deaths. Civilians, including hunters, should not own military-grade firearms or firearm accessories. First of all, hunting should be banned, and hunters owning guns means that there are more chances of extinction of animals globally.
We can take the example of Serbia in the case of violence. Though the population of their country is just seventy lakh, there are more than two million illegal guns and firearms inside their area of jurisdiction. Though their government has brought about seven acts to reduce the number of illegal firearms and also the legalisation of these arms, only 100,000 arms have been legalised through a span of more than twenty years.
Proposals to reduce gun violence:
Background checks: expanding background checks on gun sale and the check the age and for
what purpose the gun is being bought for.
Raising the age to buy guns: the thought process of elders is of course much better than that of youngsters. Apart from self-defence, guns strictly must not be used. For example, in
Yemen, guns are used during celebrations. Is this really necessary? Activities like this can be
reduced or minimised by expanding gun laws.
“Red Flag” laws: one proposed approach is to give courts more authority to confiscate
weapons from people who are considered a threat to themselves and others.
Usually, when attacks happen such as mass shootings, heavy duty guns or military style guns are used. These guns are of course not brought with a license because no person in the right mind would sell a gun to another person who might pose a threat to others and even themselves. Normal guns would be used for self-defence, but military style rifles are not for self-defence of course.
By stopping the sale of heavy duty guns to civilians, mass shootings can almost be completely stopped! Basically, by enacting gun control laws, we will be making the world a place where there is more
peace which also means there will be less violence.
