CRISIS IN COMMITTEE

The DISEC committee faced a crisis immediately after a very blood rushing press conference. The delegates were
greeted with a hacked version of the UN’s website. The website, originally in Mandarin, was found to have
Ukrainian, along with mocking comments and pictures under the portfolios of certain high importance members.
This came as a surprise to most in the committee as the website allegedly was protected by Pentagon-level
security, pointing towards state funding used to make this cyberspace breach. The delegate of DPRK believes that
Ukraine isn’t responsible as they wouldn’t leave behind such an obvious clue and don’t have the means or
motivation to act in such a way. the delegate of China then requests the committee to work together and think
about the crisis together. But china’s rationality was immediately questioned by the delegate of the Republic of
Korea. the delegateIndia stressed the fact that the hacker was skilled and he meant business. He also attributed
the hackers to be of Russian origin. the delegate of China promptly said that the delegate of India had no standing
or proof to make such a comment. The delegate of the UK then had an insightful comment, saying that only a
nation with ill intent could have defaced the UN website so it cannot be Ukraine.
Another update brought new life, the IP address was traced to the USA (with immediate denial of that fact by
the President of the USA, Mr. Donald J Trump) and a cryptocurrency going by the name Nem with links to a
South Korean server. the delegate of Venezuela accredited the attack to a non-state actor because the bases of
operations of the perpetrator/s were spread over many countries. the delegate of Germany acknowledged the
fact that IP addresses are not concrete evidence against the US, but questioned the South Korean delegation,
whether their state new anything about the server in question. the delegate of China cross-questions the
German delegate, saying it can't conclude that the US has not done the attack, because there are facts that are
against the US. Like, the president denying any accusation (even statements he had made in the past) and also
the fact that the website had pentagon level of security, and the Pentagon institution was situated in the US.
Name flinging continued for a while, with no progress made to solve the crisis. The crisis session ended with an
unmoderated caucus so that the delegates could work on their working papers for the final draft of their
resolution. The crisis remains unsolved as of now. We may never know the motives and goals of this nefarious
group ever.

The two Superpowers, China and the United States of America made two separate blocs. These blocs made two working papers as a draft to make a resolution. These two blocs were the only two blocs in the DISEC general assembly. The working paper of the bloc headed by the delegate of the United States of America was sponsored by the delegate of South Korea, the delegate of Germany, the delegate of the United Kingdom and the delegate of France. The working paper of the delegate of China was sponsored by the delegate of Russia, delegate of Iraq, delegate of Iran, delegate of Nepal and delegate of DPRK. The working paper of the delegate of China stated the need for an international organization like the ITU to help curb Cyber-warfare. The delegate of USA stated that that the UN Security Council can make a sub-body who's members would be elected by the general assembly and would create an international cyber-code. United States; Divided Thoughts

It is a widely acknowledged fact that the United States conducts itself in a hypocritical manner, and contradicts itself repeatedly in international forums. The Disarmament and International Security Council proved to be no different, and the press conference revealed the double standards the government has for its citizens. The United States has conducted itself in an entirely unfit manner, but somehow, it remains unsurprising. When asked informally, the delegate of the US said that she would refuse to answer any questions in the press conference, so it came as a surprise when she spoke on gun control regulations within the US. The delegate stated that the American government believes that the ownership of guns gives its citizens much needed peace of mind, and protection.
