Committee started directly with the resolutions where we had left off the previous day. The delegate of china was enthusiastically stating the points of the resolutions displayed on the screen, while the delegates of the G4 were not very pleased with the points in the resolutions. Amendments came pouring into the Executive Board. The Executive board also honestly felt that the delegates weren’t even clear about their voting stance during the resolution.
Islamic countries had a lot to say about the resolutions. In particular, a chit was sent to the Executive board by Islamic nationalities stating their requirement for two permanent seats in the UNSC. One peculiar thing happening in the back was that the visitors were passing an unusual amount of chits to the Executive board and need I mention that we, the press were denied our right to look into the
chit.
The resolution indeed took a really long time to be sorted and it wasn’t completely certain that it
would be passed because of all the amendments being failed and the delegate of china not being
able to influence her fellow delegates even after trying her best. The delegate of ROK had too many issues with the resolution. He wanted more than 15 permanent seats to be added to the UNSC. It isn’t certain why he wanted these amendments since ROK’s position was already confirmed in the lOist of permanent voters.
The delegate of china said something which was disagreed by every single other delegate in
committee. She said that if China wants an amendment to be made about her own resolution, other countries opinions do not matter. This clearly harmed her stance.
At the end, the countries had to come to a consensus which was friendly to all nationalities and also these seats will be given only to the countries that deserve them. At the end of the discussion of the resolution, the Executive board stated that it stands and will be voted upon. The observer countries were asked to step out during the voting process and the resolution was voted upon. The resolution passes! All the veto powers said yes and all the delegates, very provocatively clapped and also surprisingly cheered for the five veto powers.
